Tarangire (Tanzania) bird photographyA rest day at camp may not be a rest day for a bird photographer. As long as the conditions lend itself to photography we are always on the hunt for images. I kept on walking back on forth throughout the camp looking for birds and butterflies to photograph. As luck would have it, I found a few. As usual, I was lucky enough to find a few birds but not lucky enough for them to cooperate with me. So I found my self trying to sneak up on them. Then I would sit and wait for them, thinking that they will return to where I saw them sit before. At times they would comply at other times I sat until I could no longer hold my pose. I lay down to shoot from a low angle. I tried everything. Was the day successful?
I think so. I really like this image. Some may argue, as I have discussed on previous blogs, that I should have cropped this differently, vertically perhaps. That idea was played with. In the end this crop was settled on. So what draws me to this image? I like how the tail feathers fit neatly between the thorn branches. The bird's eye contact is special to me. The bird is almost saying, "did you get it?" The smooth background is a bonus. The bird stands out nicely from the background. All in all, I just find this a pleasing image. You don't always have to be out in the wild to get nice images. This image was taken right in the camp. Granted, the camp is in Tarangire. One can argue that the camp itself is in the wild. But what I means is that even in the hustle and bustle of people moving around and about buildings there are still images to be made. You don't always have to be on the safari vehicle to get the goods. By the way, this is a mousebird. Comments
