Getting different imagesI am an advocate for getting different images rather than shooting the exact same scene over and over (unless something changes or if you are planning a specific image). While on safari, a very kind Kingfisher patiently posed for us. It just stayed there for a long time and it allowed us to get reasonably close to it. How do we get different images from the same bird just sitting there, doing nothing? First off, take a few images while you are still far away as you don't know when the bird will take off as you get closer. Take an image or two every few yards you get closer. We have to bag at least something. If the bird stays on the perch as we get closer we count ourselves lucky and rejoice, and don't forget to take a few more images. In our case, this Kingfisher was very cooperative. But it did not do anything but sit there. So there was no getting any action shots, no open beak shots, no flying shots, nothing different. Well if nothing different happens with the bird, perhaps we can change the background by changing our position.
Getting closer now ...
By changing our position slightly we can get a totally different background ...
Which background do you prefer? See, now we have a choice. We will probably only print or keep one of the two, but we get to decide because we have two different options. Had we not changed our position we would not have had any options. Personally, I like the lighter background for this image. Once we have the image that we are satisfied with, and as long as the opportunity still presents itself, why not move a little, why not try to get a different background? Comments
