Last week I spoke about the T.A. Moulton barn on Mormon row in the Grand Tetons National Park. What would you do if you went to a famous place where an iconic image is but you cannot photograph the main feature of the iconic image? Here I was at THE barn; the most photographed barn in the USA - if not the world. I challenged myself to get an image without the barn. Since I was there in the evening and did not have to contend with other photographers for a space to setup, I moved around to see what else I could find.

Here you have an image without THE barn, without the mountains lit, taken during the "wrong" time of day for that image. This image was taken after sunset. Yet I like the image. I like the wooden fence, the trees, mountains and clouds.

          Many times we are so excited and caught up with the main feature of the iconic image that we do not see anything else. Look around. Find something else in addition to the iconic image. Maybe you can find another image that is so appealing that makes you ask; what iconic image?
